Building Biology
Liz Menkes is a Certified Building Biology Environmental Consultant (BBEC), having gone through special training from the Building Biology Institute.
Building Biology is a building science that focuses on creating healthy, ecological homes, schools, and workplaces that exist in harmony with the natural environment. Building Biology started in Germany after World War II when homes were being rebuilt with toxic paints and other unhealthy materials that were making people ill. It is the holistic study of how the built environment affects human health. Building Biology includes indoor air quality, healthy building construction and electromagnetic fields. The Building Biology Institute came to the U.S. in 1987.
The comprehensive training program provides participants with practical, hands-on experience in identifying and mitigating pollutants, toxins, and electromagnetic emissions in homes, schools and offices. Those who take the training become experts in prevention and are certified to advise homeowners, architects, and builders in the practices that create and maintain healthy environments.
Throughout the program, the emphasis is to teach participants the skills they need to make a real and positive impact on their communities and in the world. More information can be found at the Building Biology website.
Liz has the full Building Biology certification, including indoor air quality, healthy building construction and electromagnetic fields, she but focuses primarily on EMFs.
